Aims:
Community Development is about is about involving people, especially the
disadvantaged in making changes which they identify to be important and which
use their own skills, knowledge and expertise.
Community Development recognises that the benefits of social and economic
development are not equally distributed and that some groups and individuals
benefit less than others.
Projects and initiatives undertaken by BIDG in
response to local needs include;
 | A research project was undertaken into the needs of people who parent on
their own. An action plan has been drawn up in response to the recommendations. |

 | Support services for community groups include; training for existing groups,
support for the initiation of new community groups and women's groups, along
with opportunities for networking with other groups locally, regionally and
nationally. |
